Beyond the Flags |
This is a blog ran by a group of people who regularly meet to talk and think about questions they have. We are not fed up with Church but very interested in where the church should go next. We are on a journey where we are trying to go 'beyond the flags'... |
Christmas meal time!
Ho ho ho
what is prayer? is it important? how dou get closer to god? should we pray?
Supper
http://www.goodgoat.wordpress.com look for the ‘on communion’ link These are my random scribbled notes as we drank beer and quizzed David about why he loves the Eucharist? Passover is a symbolic meal; a meal where a shared story is told and celebrated and remembered. Each item of the meal has meaning and explains part of the jewish story. Jesus chose to talk about his death and resurrection/ body and blood at this meal. Why this meal? Because he took 2 of the symbols and re-symbolised them! Link this with Jesus saying the kingdom of god is like yeast. Wine is grape juice that yeast has been working with. Unleavened bread has not got the yeast in it ……. We eat the bread …….. We are the place where the unleavened bread- the body of christ gets leavened . through our actions we leaven the world. X
For want of a better word-‘Your ministry is probably what you like doing’! (altho ‘ministry’ is a good word coz it means ‘to render aid or service’). Is it fair to say that many of us are trapped into doing only what others want us to do? In a ‘church’ environment or in general life. To quote Gerald Coates ‘There is an idea around that says,if you have a choice, you should always choose the most difficult and obnoxious option as that is bound to be the will of God’. Or is it time that we start beliving in ourselves and understand that God basically wants us to be doing what we are made to do and we’ll be good at it!
I think church might be a happier more productive place if we were doing what God has made us to do.Im not saying that we shouldnt push ourselves or get out of our comfort zone or that there shouldnt be self-sacrifice at times, but i have sometimes felt pushed/felt guilty to do something that i know isnt ‘me’ or something that i enjoy and probably not what God has intended for me to do.(but i might have been too sensitive!)
How can we encourage each other in what we are meant to be doing? How do we know what we are meant to be doing? If somebody has a passion on their hearts(thinking of Pete last week and what he said about comic relief) how can we follow that up etc….What does God say about our ‘ministry’-should it hurt? or should we just ‘be’ and God use us through our natural gifts and likes?
Catherine knew of a church that just stopped ‘doing’ for a whole year, they lost people but maybe by having that time to not “do’ anything people had the space to listen to what God really wanted them to do and became happier and effective in the process.
Also ive been learning a little bit about ‘law’ and ‘grace’ and wondering which one we might feel we live under the most and how that can affect the world around us?
is this the reason we have fight club?
newkindofxian asked: How do I get to follow you?
